Avenged Sevenfold, abreviada a menudo con A7x, es una banda de rock/metalcore originaria Huntington Beach, California. Fue formada en 1999.
La banda ha tenido varios cambios en sus integrantes; pero los miembros actuales son los siguientes: M. Shadows (vocalista, teclados, guitarra acústica), Zacky Vengeance (guitarra rítmica, coros), The Revn (o The Reverend, batería, Piano, voz secundaria), Synyster Gates (guitarra solista, piano, voz secundaria) y Johnny Christ (bajo).
Su primer álbum, Sounding the Seventh Trumpet (2001) fue lanzado bajo el sello discográfico Good Life Recordings. Cuando se lanzo este disco Synyster Gates aún no formaba parte de la banda. Tras la unión del guitarrista con el grupo, el tema "To end the rapture" fue grabado de nuevo con Gates y el álbum fue re-lanzado bajo el sello Hopeless Records.
El segundo álbum Waking the Fallen también lanzado por Hopeless Records, tuvo buenas críticas. Después de este lanzamiento, la banda firmó con Warner Brothers Records. En el tercer disco, City of Evil, M. Shadows se aleja del estilo metalcore y de los gritos. Admite haber tenido problemas con la garganta y se sometió a cirugía, pero el cambio no es consecuencia de ello. Mudrock fue el productor del segundo y tercer álbum.
El 17 de Julio de 2007 sacaron un DVD: All Access, un documetal sobre la banda que además incluye los videos de la agrupacón.
